Lined Curtains
Some of the advantages of a lining can be protection from sunlight, increased privacy, insulation, and acoustic benefits. Often they simply enhance the look and drape of your made to measure curtains.
Not all curtains need a lining, for example sheer or voile curtains do not need lining as their purpose is to naturally let light into a room. However certain fabrics require lining for suitability reasons, for example a natural silk.
Lining fabrics don’t have to be plain, if your curtains are often seen from the outside then consider a patterned or contrast lining to add an extra designer detail.
Why should I line my curtains?
Adding a lining to your made to measure curtains will add structure, fullness and a layer of protection giving them a longer lasting lifetime. Therefore enhancing their quality look and feel.
I need blackout curtains, do I have to use lining?
Curtain fabrics are available that provide blackout, however in our experience the choice is limited and they do not drape well. We recommend a specialist blackout lining used in conjunction with any fabric from our studio.
Can I clean my lined curtains?
Whilst lining your curtains will certainly add a layer of protection from the effects of the sun, we do not recommend using strong colours in sun filled rooms as they will be prone to fade quicker than neutral colours. A blackout lining will be more effective than a standard lining. However by combining your lined curtains with sun screen blinds you can protect them from the harsher effects of the sun.
Are lined curtains expensive?
Adding a lining to your curtains does add a small cost, however, in our opinion, the benefit to the lifetime, look and feel of the curtain is well worth it.
