MADE TO MEASURE CURTAIN HEADING TYPES

PENCIL PLEAT HEADING

Pencil pleated made to measure curtains are the ideal choice for a more relaxed and casual look. These are particularly suitable for a rustic feel interior scheme.

This heading gets its name from the tightly gathered pleats. They are at the top of the curtain which resembles a row of pencils. This results in an informal and casual fall of the curtain fabric.

A pencil pleated heading is a simple finish and is particularly suited to free falling voiles and light weight curtain fabrics.  This is due to the natural look of the final curtain.

  • Pencil pleat heading tape is used to create the tight pleats with cords within the header being used to gather the fabric together.
  • Depending on the size of the curtain and the style of the surrounding décor, there are 2 sizes of tape width to choose from.
  • Pencil pleated curtains can stack to the right or left side of a window, or meet in the middle to form a pair of curtains.
  • Pencil pleated made to measure curtains can be hung from a modern track system either wall or ceiling mounted. As well as a more traditional feel from a ring and pole system.
  • This heading style can also be used to create the informal balloon headed curtains which make perfect dress curtains pooling onto a floor.

Frequently asked questions about made to measure Pencil Pleated Curtains

Pencil Pleat made to measure curtains can be mounted on a motorised rail system best fitted to the ceiling. For all your motorised rail options see our guide.

Pencil pleated curtains will give a casual, informal look. Especially for large windows which are particularly suited to large expanses of voile curtain.  The only consideration is the size of the stack back and how much this may obscure the view. Including if there is little wall space to the sides of the windows.

Pencil pleat curtains tend to have a larger stack back due to the relaxed nature of the fabric as it pulls back. This also results in a bulkier feel to the final curtain and care should be taken when combining them with other window treatments.

Pencil pleating uses less fabric than both Perfect wave finish and Pinch Pleated headings but the informality of the folds can make them bulky when used on heavier weight fabrics.

All our curtain fabrics can be lined with a specialist lining to create a blackout effect, however there will be light leakage if the curtains are wall mounted.
